Its amazing the power of paying it forward.
Its something I just do these days and don’t really think much of it.
This morning really hit home how quickly paying it forward can come back and reward you.
So I was doing some grocery shopping, buying a fair bit of stuff – probably 2 weeks worth of groceries.
The guy in front of me was just buying 1 can of soft drink.
He had no cash on him & was paying by card.
Well it turned out the card just wasn’t being recognized by the machine. Many many attempts were made to try and get the card read.
I could see the guy was fairly thirsty & I didn’t want him to go without a drink so I just said to the cashier that I will pay for the drink, it was fine.
I really didn’t think much of it – it was just helping a guy out that was thirsty.
Well the guy couldn’t believe it. he shook my hand, his facial expression of gratitude was enough for me to know I had done a good deed. I thought for a second he was gonna hug me and make a big scene, thank god he didn’t.
The cashier hadn’t seen anyone do something like that before was telling me how awesome it was. I just replied, “Mate, its a Sunday morning, the guy was thirsty, seemed like the right thing to do”
Well it turned out the cashier was so impressed with this deed he discounted most of my food I bought, discounting way more than what I paid for the other guys drink.
I tell this story not to brag. I tell this story to inspire others to go and pay it forward.
It may not be a monetary thing, just a good deed goes a long way.
Its kind of contagious.
I just love this video clip of the basics of paying it forward – its not big things – its the small things that make the world a better place
